This recipe was sent to me from a friend...I am not sure where she got it from...I altered the recipe slightly by using half regular flour and half whole wheat to make the texture more pleasing. I also used strawberry and raspberry preserves for this recipe. Because there is no sugar added to dough, the key is going to be getting the fruit filling to dough ratio satsifactory.

How Do I Make Homemade Healthy Poptarts?

Here is how you make Homemade Healthy Poptarts:

Mix the flours well. Add salt, butter and yogurt. Knead the dough to get the ingredients mixed well (I use the kneading attachment on my KitchenAid). Knead until the dough is workable. Roll out the dough on a large, well floured surface. Use a square cookie cutter (I used one that was 2 1/4 x 2 1/4) or knife to cut dough into squares. If using the size mentioned above, use 1/4 tsp of filling on half of the squares. Spread the filling around, leaving the edges free. Top with a second square. Use a fork to seal the edges. Lay each "poptart" in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake in a 350 preheated oven for about 20 minutes.Makes 22 (2 pastry/serving) servings *depending on size of pastryNumber of Servings: 22Recipe submitted by SparkPeople user KLMAYS08.
