What Are The Ingredients For Mary Ann's Cranberry Orange Scones Recipe? The ingredients for Mary Ann's Cranberry Orange Scones are: All-purpose flour, 3 cupsGranulated sugar, 1/3 cup (65 g) Baking powder, 2.5 tsp Baking soda, 0.5 tsp Salt, 1 tsp Grated orange peel, 1 tbsp, OR 1 tsp dried orange peel Chilled unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-in. pieces, 0.75 cup Dried cranberries, 0.75 cup Buttermilk, lowfat, chilled, 1 cup Orange essence, 1 tsp (optional) Raw sugar OR turbinado sugar (optional) How Do I Make Mary Ann's Cranberry Orange Scones? Here is how you make Mary Ann's Cranberry Orange Scones: 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.2. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into a large bowl. 3. Place mixture in food processor bowl and then add the pieces of butter. Pulse half a dozen times, not as fine as you would have it for piecrust. Empty it back into large bowl, then rubbing the little butter tidbits into the flour mixture with fingers until coarse meal achieved. (This can be done instead with a pastry blender by hand, but once you are familiar with the proper texture, it is faster to do it with the food processor.) It should not be as fine textured as for biscuits.) 4. Mix in the orange peel or dried orange peel and the dried cranberries. 5. Add the orange essence (oil) to the cup of chilled buttermilk, then adding it slowly all around the mixture, tossing with a fork until moist clumps form. Let sit a couple of minutes until moisture is absorbed. It may seem dry at this point, but do not add more buttermilk. 6. I knead the mixture while in the bowl about five or six times and then turn out on lightly floured surface. (If more comfortable turning dough out on floured surface and kneading it there, it's your call. Form the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick. Sprinkle the top with the tablespoon or so of raw or turbinado sugar. Then, cut into 10 wedges (as in pie slices). Transfer wedges to the prepared baking sheet (or silicone pad), spacing 2 inches apart.7. Bake on center rack at 400 degrees until tops of scones are golden brown, about 20 minutes (watch carefully after 15 minutes until you are sure of your oven temperature variation). Let stand on baking sheet 10 minutes. Note: Some might enjoy a variation of using a glaze of powdered sugar and orange juice instead of the raw sugar scattered over the top.
