Here is how you make Plain scones:

Preheat oven to 250C (500F)Sift 2 cups self raising flour into a bowl with 1 tsp baking powder and pinch of salt.Melt 30g margarine (some low fat margarine won't melt too well, so you may need to rub it into the flour before adding the milk).Pour 3/4 cup milk into flour, add melted marg and stir to a soft dough with a round bladed knife.Turn onto a floured board, dust top with flour and knead lightly for 4-5 turns to smooth the dough. Shape into a round about 2 cms thick and lift onto a greased tray. With a floured knife, cut almost through into 12 segments (squares, wedges). Brush top with milk and bake in a very hot oven (250C/500F) for 12-15 minutes. To test if cooked, tap base of tray under scone - it should sound hollow.
