I like to make beans from dry. I prefer to make them in large batches and freeze them. This recipe could be used as a starting point for refried beans, bean dip, or just cooked pintos to add to a salad.The serving size will vary greatly with the amount of water retained from cooking. To approximate serving size, a serving size of pintos is .25 c dry, so this makes about 8 servings. Since I may use this in other recipes, I'll leave it as 1 serving and adjust as necessary.

Here is how you make Easy Pinto Beans:

Place pintos in bowl and fill with water until beans are covered by about 1". Let sit overnight.Drain beans. Place pinto beans in slow cooker on high. Add about 6 cups water. Several hours later, drain pintos and add another 6 cups water. Draining water helps remove a toxin that causes gas. Add salt with this new water. Add garlic and onion powder near end of cooking. Cook beans for 6-8 hours or until you reach desired firmness. Beans are done when they are smooth when bitten into, not grainy feeling on the tongue. You could stop slightly short of done if planning to add them to other recipes.For fat free "refried" beans, place in blender or food processor with water from cooking. Adjust water for desired consistency.
