It worked great.) 1/3 C Warm Water (follow the directions on the yeast pkg-mix the yeast with dry stuff and add water to milk) 1 C Sugar 1/2 tsp Salt 2 lg Eggs 10 Tbsp (1 1/4 sticks) Butter, softened 6 or 7 Cs All Purpose Flour (use 6 to start, add remaining as needed) 1 Egg, beaten (to glaze loaves) Whole Sesame Seeds (I was out, but it dresses up the loaf) How Do I Make Vasilopita (Greek Braided Bread)?Here is how you make Vasilopita (Greek Braided Bread): Prep time includes rising time.Heat milk & water in microwave for 1.45 mins.Mix flour, salt and yeast. Set aside.Beat eggs, add sugar, cream in butter. Add milk & water, mix well.Gradually add flour, stirring constantly. (I used my Kitchen Aid mixer) Mix thoroughly.You want to add enough flour to make a soft, elastic dough. Shouldn't be firm. Not real sticky, either.Cover with wax paper and a thick towel. Let rise until double (about 50-60 mins) in a draft free place.Punch down and knead dough.Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Oil a large spring form pan.Divide dough in half. Set aside one half. Cut the other half in 3 equal pieces. Roll out each piece until 12-15 inches long. Braid the 3 parts and place in one side of the spring form pan. Repeat with the dough that was set aside.Cover and let rise in a warm place until dough has nearly doubled.Brush top with beaten egg. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake at 350 for 45-60 mins. until top is a deep chestnut color. Check every 15 mins and if the color is darkening too quickly, reduce heat to 325 degrees.
