1 to 1 1/2 lbs meaty smoked pork hocks or ham bone
1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram, crushed
1 bay leaf
1 medium carrot
1 medium chopped onion
1 stalk celery


How Do I Make Easy Split Pea Soup?

Here is how you make Easy Split Pea Soup:

Rinse and drain 1 Cup of dry split peas. In a large saucepan, combine 1 can or 2 cups chicken broth, 2 cups water, 1 large ham hock or bone, peas, 1/4tsp marjoram, 1 bay leaf, and dash of pepper. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally. Remove meat from pot. When cool enough to handle, cut meat off of bone and coarsely chop. Discard bones. Return meat to pot. Stir in chopped onion, carrot, and celery. Return to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer for another 20-30 minutes or until veggies are tender. Discard bay leaf.
