This recipe was roughly given to me by my acupuncturist for a blood disorder. The rich nutrients of a bone broth and the organ meat of the chicken livers helps set the blood back into order. It called it a nutritionally complete soup.

How Do I Make Medicine Soup?

Here is how you make Medicine Soup:

Start with the bone broth. I usually roast a chicken the first night, let it cool and then take out all the bones, cartilage, joints, skin etc and put it in my crock pot. I also go to the co-op to purchase chicken feet. I put 1-2 in the pot. Don't forget the chicken neck in the giblet bag! Large bones I take a meat cleaver and chop in half to get to the marrow. Then take either a couple tablespoons or vinegar or fresh lemon juice to help extract all the minerals from the bones and then fill the crock pot almost full with water (mine can take about 4 quarts). Let that go for 8-24 hours. If water gets low add some. Usually when I get done I have a good 3 quarts of broth. DO NOT SKIM THE FAT OFF THE BROTH. THAT IS THE BEST PART AND WHAT WILL MAKE YOU FULL AND IS WHAT YOUR BODY NEEDS.The second night, it takes me about 2 hours to chop veggies. I like a full head of celery, a pound of carrots, a bell pepper or two, a large onion, and a ton of garlic. Ginger is my favorite, I put a bunch in. Saute everything with a little olive oil. Then I drain and strain the stock (just for all the bones, again, leave the fat and goodness) from the crockpot and add to my pot on the stove. Add some water if needed. Bring everything to a boil and let simmer for an hour. Get 1-3 chicken livers and saute them in a pan with some butter. Let them cool, chop them super fine and add to the pot. Close to the end I take a couple bunches of kale cut into strips like "noodles" and add to pot. Put in some fresh parsley too. Once kale is dark green, it's ready to enjoy.Serving Size: 2-3 cup serving.Number of Servings: 1Recipe submitted by SparkPeople user D_KEPPY.
