Romaine or Iceberg Lettuce torn into bite size pieces 4 cups
Tomatoes (any type but Italian are more meaty) diced 1 cup
Cheddar cheese (can use low fat to reduce calories if preferred) 2 cups shredded
Green chili peppers canned, desired hotness-
one small can or 0.5 cup
Onions , raw, chopped 0.5 cup
Red Kidney beans - 2 16 oz cans, rinsed and drained.
Black olives - sliced, 0.5 cup (this can be adjusted to reduce calories as well)

Also if you want to make this into a main course you can saute some lean ground beef with taco seasoning and add to the salad.

Here is how you make Taos Salad Toss:

I use a large glass bowl to serve this in because it is so pretty when you can see all the layers.Start with a layer of lettuce and then add next ingredient of choice (save cheese for the top so it doesn't get mushy) small layers of lettuce between each ingredient. Top with shredded cheese and serve with desired salad dressing or I use salsa as a dressing. (Another variation is to top with crushed corn chips but that of course adds calories, kids love it though!)This is a great potluck dish, very pretty, different, and fresh; welcomed by most people watching calories!
