Dice onion and chop squash and tomatoes into large pieces, then add to the slow cooker crock. Put garlic over the top and (if you choose) add the butter. Place chicken over the top of the veggies. Season to taste the veggies and the chicken with basil, salt and pepper. Season the chicken to taste with paprika. Slow cook for about 8 hours. I use the high setting because the chicken is often not fully thawed prior to cooking.
