1 large onion, thinly sliced
1/4 tsp ground cloves, divided
1/2 lb beef calf liver
1/4 C balsamic vinegar
1T butter
Sea salt
Freshly ground black pepper


How Do I Make Liver and Caramelized Onions?

Here is how you make Liver and Caramelized Onions:

Stir walnuts in a large skillet over medium heat until slightly darker in color-about 2 minutes. Transfer nuts to a small bowl and set aside.Melt .5 T of olive oil in same skillet over medium heat. Addonion and saute until golden brown- about 10 minutes. Add more if you enjoy onions. Add half the ground cloves and saute for a minute longer. Season with sea salt and fresh black pepper to taste. Transfer onions to a plate using a slotted spoon. This allows the oil to drip out.melt remaining T of oilve oil along with the butter in the same skillet over medium-high heat.Sprinkle liver with remaining cloves, salt and pepper. Add liver to the skillet and cook until brown on outside but still pink in the center, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer liver to two plates.
